Update No. 2 from the Saddleworld Dressage Festival/Victorian Dressage Championships & CPEDI3* International Para Equestrian Competition (& AUS National Para EQ Squad Camp) in Werribee, Vic.

Hi everyone

Thanks so much for your good luck wishes & thoughts for us with the fires back at our home.

As of Wednesday evening our home is still safe & fire free but after the fires had thankfully calmed a bit, they have since flared up again. The firey's held a town meeting which Peter attended & they were basically told to start to consider putting their bushfire survival plans into action (eg. if they plan to evacuate consider doing that soon or if you plan to stay ensure you have everything set & ready for if the fire hits).

Peter is still planning to stay & has got things ready at home inc. what little water we have into the tractor as much as possible & a back pack pump for hosing spot fire's & everything else where he needs it.

The firey's hope to keep the fire reasonably contained, but now we just have to wait & hope the wind doesn't change & push the fire even closer to our direction. But so far everyone at home is still safe & well. So thanks again so much for all your messages, its nice to know people care :)

As for our time today in Vic, we had another good day of riding at our squad camp & more info sessions, plus a dinner for all riders & their support crews attending the Para Equestrian section of the event. It was great to get all the countries together to socialize & enjoy, before we head into the arena as competitors.

More of the able-bodied competitors have arrived today (Wednesday) at the venue & so far the integration has been going ok, as this is the first time EA have held a Para Equestrian & EA Dressage event combined together as one.

I think a few able-bod's have been concerned about how their horses will react to the sight of all the motorized wheelchairs & scooters, but I'm sure they will soon realize that it is usually more the riders not horses that are worried & then hopefully they'll start to enjoy seeing our two sports become one! Because I know that is possible :)

So tomorrow, the competition formalities begin & we have the official Trot Up Inspection, plus another chance for training before the competition begins on Friday :s

I'll try to keep you all updated on the events both here at the comp & back at home as often as possible. Take care & I really better go get some sleep now as we have a very early start & a long day ahead of us tomorrow (Thursday) & the weekend.

Update from the Saddleworld Dressage Festival/Victorian Dressage Championships & CPEDI3* International Para Equestrian Competition (& AUS National Para EQ Squad Camp) in Werribee, Vic.

We've settled in at Werribee, for our National Squad Camp & CPEDI3* International Comp this week after a safe trip here which we spread out over 2 days, stopping at Tarcutta half way on Sunday night.

We had our first ride for training today (Tuesday) & all went ok, & getting ready for 2 more days of camp before the Comp days on 11th-13th Dec 2009.

But after having a good day of riding & great talks with experts at our camp, Mum & I got some very scary news that bushfires are hitting hard in our area & found the fires are only 5km's from our home near Bathurst, NSW.

Its extremely upsetting & we're very worried about Peter & all our horses & animals at home where I cant get back to help!

Apparently some neighborus have already chosen to evacuate on their own (haven't been told yet to do so by firey's) & helicopters are water bombing up the road..

I so hope everyone stays safe & well, 2 people are already fighting for their lives after being caught in the fire :(

I so wish I could be home to help..

I know I need to focus on the comp, but its also very hard knowing they're in danger, but Peter will keep us up-to-date as things happen & he has a plan of what he'll do if the fire does reach our property so that will help..

Will try & keep you updated on our progress at the camp/comp :)
